Textausschnitt: () A fundamental distinction is made between unconscious and conscious finality. According to Aristotle, any object has a finality to be at the center of the earth,
()
Intellectual and rational consciousness has a finality to the unlimited objective, to being. The finality is in what is present to itself when it is intellectually alert or critically reflective. To wonder is to manifest the finality of an intelligent subject, and to be critically reflective is to manifest the finality of a rational subject. We move from a level of sense presentations, perception, and images to a level of insight and conception, inasmuch as we are intellectually alert, inasmuch as we have not only verbal questions or questions conceptually expressed, but also that root of questioning that is intellectual curiosity, wanting to understand something.
